Sales Report – Friday 4th October
Store sheep sale 4,230 – sold
Auctioneers: John Rossiter 07557 392903 & James Cook-O’Connell 07712246474.
Report on trade: A decent sized entry of lambs this week and trade was a little stronger than we saw a couple of weeks ago, with the new restrictions now being accepted by both buyers and sellers alike. We have now found the level of trade that is working for both sides, despite the limited number of buyers that we can now sell to. Top end lambs for a shorter turn around are most sought after and generally are selling in excess for £100 hd plus with the smarter types over £110. Top spot on the day was taken by S J M Evans at £119 hd with a close second at £118.50 taken by Maytham Wharf. Averages were up by about £3 hd on the previous sale. A few ewe lambs on the day sold to a top price of £116 from E Morris & Son with Romney wethers topping out at £96.50 from H Metcalfe.
Another good show of tegs which started with a pen of Lleyn’s to £160 from P D Denne followed by Suffolk x Romneys from J Seward to £162. A rare show of Dutch Spotted tegs from N A Vincent to £180 with Texel x Mules from the same home also £180. E W & R E Hank had their second draw of Suffolk x Mules which topped at £170. We then moved onto the Mules with customers plentiful and a run from Little Boarzell Farms topped at £202 followed by Swallow Mill Farms which went that bit further and reached £205 with majority of the others £185 – £200 per head.
Please do inform me of any breeding sheep you intend on selling in the coming weeks with another sale on Friday 25th October to include a sale of breeding rams.
