Shadoxhurst is a delightful village on the Kent Weald and is located between the North Downs and Romney Marsh in beautiful wooded countryside and farmland to the South West of Ashford.
Shadoxhurst dates back to the 13th century and hosts an interesting 13th century church along with some period buildings and a popular country pub.
The name Shadoxhurst was once spelled ‘Schettokesherst’ which is thought to have originated from a family name many centuries ago such as Shaddock or Shattock and ‘Hurst’ or ‘Herst’ which is an Anglo-Saxon word for wooded knoll.
Locals and visitors to Shadoxhurst can enjoy some of the many woodland walks within the parish before making a stop at The Kings Head pub for a well earned break! This award-winning pub dates back to 1580 and has served walkers and locals alike for centuries!
A friendly and charming village, Shadoxhurst has plenty to offer its residents including a village post office, a shop at Stubbs Cross, a village hall and a popular sports pavilion.
