Sales Report – Friday 11th October
Store sheep sale 3,409 – sold
Auctioneers: John Rossiter 07557 392903 & James Cook-O’Connell 07712246474.
Report on trade: A smaller sale with just under 4,000 store sheep on offer. The overall quality of the sheep on offer was not at the same levels we have been seeing in recent weeks and in turn was definitely reflected in the prices. More, smaller and longer term sheep were on offer and with the majority of buyers now looking for lambs that will gain greater weights for next spring, the customer base for these smaller sorts is limited. Strong lambs are still in demand and selling for prices in excess of £100 hd and topped at £114 today form Brockhill Park School.
As we are getting closer and closer to the tupping season we see less tegs every week with a good number of people having now bought what they need for the next season. Mules took the top spot from W A Ketley & Son to £198 followed by Suffolk x Mules from G Hosmer & Son to £170 with majority of the other £140 – £160 on the day.
The breeding ewe section saw a wide variety with 2 lamb Charollais from D J Morphett to £150 however top spot went to E G King for smart flock aged Texel cross ewes to £151. A flock reduction of Texel x Romneys to £130 from Wey Street Farm with majority of the strongest breeding ewes £100 – £125 throughout.
Please do inform me of any breeding sheep you intend on selling in the coming weeks with a catalogued ram sale also being held on Friday 25th October.
